This well-known hiking trail with its unique rock formations is a „must“ when visiting the Harz region.

The "Teufelsmauer" (Devil's wall) with its sandstone formations streches over approximately 20km from Ballenstedt over Rieder and Weddersleben to Blankenburg (Harz)

Many of the individual rocks bear individual names.

Numerous myths and tales have formed, trying to explain the unique shapes and formations of this place. This is why as early as 1833 and 1852, the area was declared a protected zone to prevent people from removing the saught after sandstone.

Since 1935, the area Bode, north of Thale has been declared a nature reserve and is one of Germany’s oldest.
